About Dr. Berman
Laura Berman, LCSW, Ph.D., an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry and obstetrics/gynecology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, has been working as a sex educator and therapist for 20 years and is considered a thought leader in her field. She has appeared in the pages of nearly every major publication and on radio and television, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Today show, Fox News, CNN, the New York Times, USA Today, Glamour, Elle, and Ladies' Home Journal. Dr. Berman is a regular contributor on the Today Show, giving viewers advice about sex and relationships on TV and in an online column, "In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman." She is also the host of Oprah Radio's "Better in Bed," a live and lively call-in program that airs on SIRIUS XM Radio. She also starred in Showtime's hit reality TV series, Sexual Healing, which followed real-life couples through a week in therapy with her at the Berman Center.
Dr. Berman is a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times and coauthor of the New York Times best seller For Women Only: A Revolutionary Guide to Overcoming Sexual Dysfunction and Reclaiming Your Sex Life, Secrets of the Sexually Satisfied Woman: Ten Keys to Unlocking Ultimate Pleasure and The Passion Prescription. Her latest book, Real Sex for Real Women, was released by DK Publishing in 2008.
After obtaining a master's degree in Clinical Social Work and a doctorate in Health Education and Therapy (specializing in human sexuality) at New York University, Dr. Berman went on to complete a training fellowship in Sexual Therapy in the Department of Psychiatry at New York University Medical Center.
Dr. Berman is also the director of the Sexual Health State-of-the-Art series, an accredited program for the Council of Continuing Medical Education, and she currently serves on the foundation board of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. She is a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and the National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Berman has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and honors, including the Israel Cancer Research Fund's "Women of Action" Award, The National Association of Women Business Owners' "Rising Star of the Year" Award, and the Los Angeles Business Journal's "Women Who Make a Difference" Award.
