The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction is world-renowned. Since its inception in 1947 at Indiana University, the Kinsey Institute has led the field in the research of human sexuality. Founded by famous sex research Dr. Alfred Kinsey, the institute has been instrumental in collecting important information on human sexuality and in leading crucial studies into the exploration of sexuality and gender.

The Kinsey Institute is taking its research to the next level. Now, Indiana University will utilize the Kinsey Reporter, a new mobile app that will allow people to respond to surveys in a digital and anonymous fashion. Survey respondents will be able to fill in data on the go, all while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.

The Kinsey Reporter will be noteworthy for many reasons. For one thing, it will allow for a greater number of survey respondents to be involved in data collection, and it will also allow for real-time replies. Survey respondents will also feel more comfortable answering intimate questions about sexuality and gender. Filling out information on their smartphones, rather than in interviews with researchers, will likely inspire more honest and open communication, as the survey participants will feel more comfortable revealing sexual information anonymously.

Additionally, the Kinsey Reporter will be interactive and allow students to read and review sexual data. It will be both a data collector as well as a research tool and, it is hoped, will inspire more students to become empowered and involved when it comes to discussions of gender and sexuality.
